Turf Cutters
Turf cutters are the ideal machines for anyone who needs to remove turf. Whether you are a contractor laying cables or pipework, or a landscaper renewing a lawn, you will find this machine invaluable.
These machines generally cut a strip around 200mm to 600mm to a depth of around 10cm. This is normally anough to get the majority of the root stock. This is particularly successful if the lawn has be grown to be used as turf (watered oftern and lightly). Unless you are doing this professionally are pretty pricy and you don't tend to need them that oftern so rental is the way to go.
The more modern versions are quite easy to use as the rear wheels are driven off the motor and this pushes the machine along by itself. Recent versions have also introduced a cutting blade wider than th wheel base so you can cut hard up against walls and other obsicals.
As with all heavy machinary there are some basic safety rules you should follow:
- Wear ear protection and steel-capped work boots when operating the turf cutter.
- Keep your feet and hands clear of the cutting blades while operating.
- Avoid using the machine for long periods of time as the vibration from the machine can affect your forearms and hands.
- Turf cutters can be cumbersome, heavy and difficult to move. To avoid back injuries, take care when manoeuvering the machine.
